The software itself is aging (Shimeji-ee hasn't been updated since 2019), but the community is alive. Dedicated fans are working on a "Shimeji 2" using Electron/JavaScript to allow for Discord Rich Presence integration (imagine your friends seeing "Ralsei is currently climbing your taskbar"). In an era of high-stress remote work and cluttered tabs, the Shimeji Ralsei is a small act of digital rebellion. He is a reminder that software can be playful, that desktops do not have to be sterile, and that a fluffy goat boy in a wizard hat has no respect for your productivity.
